Everything you need to know about specifying a BORA integrated cooktop — from model comparisons to installation requirements and what to expect at our Tipperary showroom.
BORA has fundamentally changed the way we think about kitchen ventilation. By integrating the extraction system directly into the cooktop, BORA eliminates the need for an overhead hood — freeing up space, improving sightlines, and creating a more social cooking environment.
Why BORA? The Case for Integrated Extraction
Traditional overhead extractors create a physical and visual barrier in the kitchen. They block sightlines across islands, collect grease in hard-to-reach places, and dominate the ceiling plane. BORA's approach draws cooking vapours downward at source — directly through the hob surface — removing these problems entirely.
At Savvy Kitchens, we've been specifying BORA systems for over five years, and the response from our clients has been overwhelmingly positive. The combination of engineering precision, quiet operation, and design purity makes BORA a natural fit for the premium kitchens we design and build.
The BORA Range: Four Models Compared
The current range includes four models: the flagship BORA X Pure, the modular BORA Pure, the Professional 3.0 with its distinctive knob control, and the accessible Classic 2.0. Each system offers integrated downdraft extraction but varies in size, control interface, and price point.
The BORA X Pure sits at the top of the range — the largest cooktop depth, the most powerful extraction, and the most refined control interface. The BORA Pure offers a modular approach that adapts to different layouts. The Professional 3.0 introduces analogue-digital knob control for those who prefer a tactile cooking experience. And the Classic 2.0 makes BORA technology accessible at a more attainable price point.
The moment clients see a BORA working in our showroom — the silence, the clear sightlines, the clean air — the overhead hood becomes unthinkable.
Installation: What You Need to Know
Installation requires careful coordination between your kitchen designer, electrician, and builder. The extraction unit sits below the cooktop and connects to either a recirculation system or an external exhaust duct. We handle this coordination as part of our full kitchen installation service.
Electrical requirements vary by model but typically require a dedicated 32A circuit. The ducting or recirculation housing sits within the cabinet below, so worktop depth and cabinet configuration need to be planned from the outset.
